Kruja Mountain rises sharply above the coastal plain east of the city, forming part of a dramatic range that stretches from southern Shkodra to Tirana. The mountain is also known for the Sari Salltik Tekke, a sacred Bektashi site named after a 13th-century dervish revered for his spiritual legacy.

Starting from the Bazaar of Kruja, this self-guided hike follows a pilgrim’s path, partially paved with cobblestones. The steady ascent winds through sparse pine and rocky outcrops, leading to the sacred Bektashi Tekke of Sari Salltik. Located at the mountain’s edge, the site offers sweeping vistas from the coast to the interior highlands. After resting and taking in the serene atmosphere, you’ll return along the same trail back to your starting point in Kruja.

This trail starts and ends in Krujë. You have to drive to the starting point of the hike yourself or take public transport. Parking is available nearby.

While most hiking trails are signed, some markings may be unclear or difficult to see. Certain sections might not be well-marked, and poor weather can make navigation more challenging. Good navigation skills are necessary to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Estimated hiking times are given for each day. These times do vary according to the day’s weather conditions and your fitness levels. These times do not include times taken for meals and breaks. The hiking times are all calculated in accordance with the Albanian national standard for hiking trails, which is based on the Swiss Alpine Club adaptation of the DIN44366 standard.
