The Vjosa River Valley is one of the most scenic regions in southern Albania, where vibrant greenery and dramatic mountain contours frame a river that flows wild and free. Përmet, nestled in this valley, is a charming town known for its thermal springs, hospitality, and proximity to centuries-old mountain villages. Leusë, perched above the valley, has long served as a cultural and trade link between Albania and northern Greece. Its crown jewel is the Church of St. Mary, a mystic site layered with history dating back to the 6th century Byzantine Empire.
This circular hike begins in the town of Përmet and winds uphill through gentle woodland paths, toward the peaceful village of Lipë. From there, the trail continues along the hillside, shaded by chestnut trees, and offering panoramic views of the Vjosa River far below, before reaching Leusë, where the cobblestone paths and stone-roofed houses transport you to a bygone era. After exploring the village and its iconic church, you’ll descend via a gravel road that gradually leads you back into the heart of Përmet.
