Today we will hike surrounded by the one of the kind landscapes of “Mali me Gropa” (The Mountain with holes). It is a unique karst phenomenon in Albania and one of the rarest in Europe. This mountain takes its name from its upper surface filled with karst pits, that were formed by the dissolution of limestone during the Ice Age. These pits have a depth ranging from several meters, up to 100 meters in certain areas. Some of them end with wells that expand into underground karst caves. From this mountain start several streams that provide drinking water for Tirana.

Your guide will pick you up for your transfer, from a centrally located meeting point in Tirana. The hike starts from the village of “Shën Mëri”, following a flat and wide gravel road. As the trail becomes narrower, it also gets steeper but remains easy to hike on.
Approaching the ridgeline, the trail becomes more exposed to wind and weather.
Our destination of the day is “Maja e Micekut të Shënmërisë”, the highest point of Tirana County at 1827m above sea level. The views from the summit stretch to the East over “The Holes” that give this mountain its name, and to the West over Dajti Mountain and even the Adriatic Sea.
We will hike mostly along the same trail back to Shën Mëri, and from there return to Tirana.

This is a private tour. Pickup is available from your hotel or another address of your choice, provided it lies no more than 3 km from Tirana city centre. You will be dropped off at the same point when the tour ends.
