– Journey through the heart of Theth Valley: where legends, rivers, and peaks collide.
– Walk forested trails to Grunas Waterfall, and peer into a canyon just one meter wide.
– Marvel at the “Blue Eye,” a sapphire pool hidden in a jungle-like hollow.
– Pause at a working watermill in Ndërlysaj and watch mountain traditions come to life.
Today you will hike along the Theth Valley and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of this corner of the Albanian Alps.
The hike starts from the village of Theth, that lies in the centre of the valley surrounded by high peaks and forests.
There are some attractions that can be visited in Theth. One of them is the Isolation tower, built in the 19th century. It is a multi-storey residential tower, where people who were endangered by blood feud sheltered for months.
Along your hike, you can stop for a visit of the water mill in Ndërlysaj – a small wooden building that is put to work by a stream of water diverted from the river and is still functional today.
Starting from the village you will follow the trail that winds through the forest ascending to the Grunas waterfall.
After taking in the view, you will descend to the Grunas Gorge. From the bridge you can admire the impressive beauty of the 30 meters high and one-meter-wide canyon.
The hike continues to Ndërlysa. It is the place where the “Black stream” meets “Shala River” creating the glacier mills that offer a unique nature spectacle.
From there, you will hike to the “Blue Eye of Kapre” a spellbinding natural pool with amazingly blue water in a jungle-like environment.
After some time to enjoy and take in the view, return to Ndërlysa following the same trail.
From there the hike continues back to the village of Thethi.
